BOOM!
The sound startled us quickly from our sleep. It came across like an explosion right outside our home at 3:00 am. Viewing out the living room window, I wondered if I’m dreaming. What!…I started counting. 1, 2, 3, 4 vehicles scattered in all directions in our driveway on this dark hazy morning. I immediately go out into the yard to get a closer look.
After further observation, a small auto missed a slight curve up our rural neighborhood road. The misguided car side swiped my neighbors car and continued through his lawn barely missing a tree.
The wild auto would hit one vehicle in our driveway that started a tail spinning bowling pin collision into two more of our cars. The overdosed driver had left the scene and was later found hiding in a nearby backyard.
After all was said and done, 5 vehicles were damaged. 4 totaled including 3 of mine. It was so surreal, seeing three tow trucks leaving our home as the sun was breaking over the horizon. I, along with our two teenagers, no longer had a means of transportation.
What do we do when the unexpected hits us hard? We’ve all been through some form of it….you know, your own boom in the dark. That moment that just doesn’t seem real.
Have you experienced a day when darkness knocked at your front door and you didn’t want to let him in but he pushed the door open anyway? Maybe it was severe, even to the point of being life threatening… maybe it still is.
Are we able to find at least a thread of good in times like these? I’ve come to realize, as many of you have, that life is full of ups and downs. I hope the majority of you also know that there’s always good if you are willing to put forth the effort to find it.
“So I say to my soul, “Don’t be discouraged. Don’t be disturbed. For I know my God will break through for me.” Then I’ll have plenty of reasons to praise Him all over again. Yes, He is my saving grace!”
Psalms 42:11
It might not feel good…It might not come as quickly as you would like… It’s not guaranteed to remove all of the bad instantly….but God is more than able to turn every circumstance into something good.
…there’s always good if you are willing to put forth the effort to find it.
David had a list of his own ups and downs. So many, that he wrote a book about them. Yet, through it all he could say….I know. It was something he had confidence in because of having experienced it. David knew God would breakthrough on his behalf and give him once again, several reasons to praise his Lord.
Three fancy rental cars were the kick start to our breakthrough. Our son’s powered up rental with more horsepower than we preferred, brought a grin to his face. God knows how to make us smile.
Three rental cars were followed up by three new used cars for the Simmons family. My former car had been running on it’s last lap for awhile now. It would have cost more to replace that car alone than the small investment we made to upgrade each individual car.
Somehow, our disastrous boom in the dark brought about an even better and brighter tomorrow.
That’s my God.
How loud is your boom today?
How long has it captured your attention?
Is there something going on in your life right now that sure could use a sunny outcome?
Tell yourself…don’t be discouraged my soul…don’t be disturbed. You know, just saying that out loud wherever you are right now can be a powerful thing. The God of your breakthrough is looking forward to hearing your voice this very moment.
“I will praise the Lord at all times.
I will constantly speak His praises.” Psalm 34:1
“Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
I encourage you to not wait in beginning to praise Him for what’s coming. For, the praise in the unseen will bring about the breakthrough in ways you can never imagine.
The praise in the unseen will bring about the breakthrough in ways you can never imagine.
God has your best interest in mind.
