Authentic Humility

Be free from pride-filled opinions, for they will only harm your cherished unity. Don’t allow self-promotion to hide in your hearts, but in authentic humility put others first and view others as more important than yourselves. Philippians 2:3

There are these three guys that keep appearing on America’s most wanted list. It’s a different kind of wanted list than we might be accustom to. It’s more like the “I want something” list.  Me, myself, and I keep getting a lot of attention, which drives their agenda.

 Let’s get honest.

Is the order of importance as follows…me, myself, I, and then others, which includes Christ?

Does our life equation work when we add more to the threesome?  Some might say… the more you add, the more complicated it gets.  Why add others we don’t know as much about, including Christ? Let’s just stick to who we can relate to best ….me, myself, and I.

But like three blind mice, we have to remind ourselves the following…

Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in His eyes. Romans 12:2

History also reveals a great story that tells of when four was definitely a better number than three.

But suddenly, Nebuchadnezzar jumped up in amazement and exclaimed to his advisers, “Didn’t we tie up three men and throw them into the furnace?” “Yes, your Majesty, we certainly did,” they replied. “Look!” Nebuchadnezzar shouted. “I see four men, unbound, walking around in the fire unharmed! And the fourth looks like a god! Daniel 3:24-25

and it was God!!

The fourth man became the #1 man we all need at the center of our lives. Jesus Christ is the only One who can fill that position.

He is a must to our equation!

I eagerly seek His on-going reformation, for that’s when I am empowered and effective in serving Him.

I’ve come to realize a few things about the other three fellas, as time keeps moving on.  “I” will be fine without the ideals and opinions of this culture.  “I” will enjoy life much better and get more out of it when “I” do not attempt to make “myself” the center of attention.  And as for “me”….I just need to be “me” in Christ and not in anything or through anyone else. Jesus Christ paid it all for “me.” Hallelujah!

Abandon every display of selfishness. Possess a greater concern for what matters to others instead of your own interests. And consider the example that Jesus, the Anointed One, has set before us. Let His mindset become your motivation. Philippians 2:4-5

When we act in kindness and not react with violence, when we are confident in our beliefs but not loud with our demands, when we prioritize to give vs focusing on getting, when we love others before we love ourselves….we come to discover the boomerang of blessings that flow closely behind.

His mindset becomes my motivation

And then…only then, I can add my name to the most wanted list as wanting the boomerang of blessings that flow closely behind.

May Your abundant blessings continue to flow Lord.

And we find satisfaction in experiencing God’s plan, God’s goodness, and God’s love like never before.

One of my favorite passages is 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. “ Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. Give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for those who belong to Jesus Christ.” Life has taught me to know a lot but I am not a know it all. Realizing there is always more to learn and experience I continue my spiritual journey.
