Eyes That See: 3 of 3

How do you wish to appear to others?

Do other people see that God dwells in you and me?

“No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and His love is brought to full expression in us” 1 John 4:12

*“Eyes that look are common. Eyes that see are rare” – J. Oswald Sanders

Is it becoming rare to see God’s love in others or do we simply blend in so well with the things of this world that we look quite common to everyone else around us?

God’s plan is for us to see the variety of colors surrounding us and when we blend ourselves together, we make a beautiful thing.

You’ve heard the saying…I can see Jesus in them..or..you can just tell he/she is a Christian. Others need to see Jesus in our eyes. Their eyes need to be enlighten with seeing Jesus in us.

Others need to see Jesus in our eyes.

His love is to be brought to full expression in us? Wow! Did I read that right? FULL expression. I point my finger at myself in the mirror and say I’m guilty Lord at times of not showing any love to others much less a full expression of it.

During a recent season where smiles were less seen due to wearing mask because of Covid-19, how much more should our eyes be telling others that we care?

As I evaluate myself, question after question comes to mind…do my eyes show the love of Jesus to others? Do I even make eye contact when communicating? Lord where do You want me to start?

Who do I need to see and not overlook any longer? Who needs me more than I could ever imagine? How do I go about such a task? What’s the simplest form of letting someone know that I am not ignoring or not overlooking them?

Simple things I can do from seeing:

Give a head nod of acknowledgement.

Smile more.

Speak a kind word often.

Pray on the spot.

Step of faith things I can do from seeing:

Approach someone I do not know well and ask a simple question to start a conversation.

Ask God to give me an encouraging word to share with someone.

Ask someone if I can pray for them.

Do a kind deed for a family member, friend, neighbor, or stranger.

Tell someone that Jesus loves them.

“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are”. Theodore Roosevelt

We may rarely see others above ourselves, but how much more would we look like Jesus if we did?

“God lives in us, and His love is brought to full expression in us”

How much effort does it take to let someone know that we know the Loving Father, who wishes for them to know that He loves them too?

God, may our eyesight improve to see the opportunities that are all around us. May our reactions to what we see extend to our words, hands and feet in Jesus name, Amen.
