How to Measure the Volume of Our Words

posted in: Devotionals, God’s Word | 1

I love you.

Those three words can warm a soul no matter how cold and frigid things appear. They carry a powerful weight to their meaning.  Do you remember a particular moment in time when those three words were spoken to you?   There’s nothing quite comparable to that initial feeling when that special someone said those words to you for the very first time.

Over the many years of marriage, my wife and I have shared those words numerous times with one another. Saying it often reminds us of the authenticity of its heartfelt meaning.  But like several words we might say often, over time we may tend to lose a bit of its heartfelt richness.  Repeated spoken words can become more like a routine rather than a deeper expression that reminds us of when and where the saying originated from.

In order to not just be speaking it, we must be reminded that we need to demonstrate what we are saying as well.  You’ve heard the phrase…”don’t just say it, do it” or maybe another one….”don’t just talk the talk, but walk the walk”.

How we demonstrate what we say proves there is action behind our words.  It means we make an effort to back up what comes out of our mouths.

That’s why there’s another saying that gets a lot of attention….”actions speak louder than words.”

Is the volume of our actions louder than our words?  I believe God knew the importance of not only telling us of His love but by demonstrating the magnitude and the height of that love.

Is the volume of our actions louder than our words?

God expressed His unmeasurable love by sending His Son, Jesus, to die on a cross for our sins.  Nothing will ever compare to that level of action.

Jesus continued that expression of love while living among us. He exhibited acts of kindness, compassion, and care. Though His words carried great power and authority within themselves, it was the touch of a loving Savior, that revealed His character and the love of the Father.

If God knew the importance of needing to make His actions known, then is it not just as important for us to do the same?

“Beloved children, our love can’t be an abstract theory we only talk about, but a way of life demonstrated through our loving deeds.” 1 John 3:18

“For when you demonstrate the same love I have for you by loving one another, everyone will know that you’re My true followers.” John 13:35

You and I can say we love Jesus all day long, but do our actions back up our words?

It was the touch of a loving Savior, that revealed His character and the love of the Father.

Another thought, do the words we speak match our actions when it comes to demonstrating we are true followers of Christ?

God’s Word AND His actions matched one another.

Shouldn’t ours do the same or at least be showing progress towards that goal?

Can we all agree that….

“What the world needs now, is love sweet love. It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of.” (Hal David)

What role will we play in adding some sweet love to this world? How can our words and our actions help someone else be reminded of what a true follower in Christ is?

Please join me in this prayer…

Dear God, You are the definition of love. You ultimately backed it up by demonstrating Your love for us when You sent Your Son to die for our sins. Thank you for loving me. Thank you for sending Jesus so we can see how Your love is meant to be expressed to others. Lord, throughout the scriptures, we see that Jesus showed His love to everyone by acts of kindness. His compassion, His care, and His touch is what we long for. May we strive to follow His lead in demonstrating Your love more consistently in our lives and to others.  We know we can because we love You. May our actions speak louder than our words, in Jesus name.

Amen.

Hi, Welcome to my blog . I love my God, my family, music, hikes, Mexican food and coffee. I am passionate about worship and serving Christ. One of my favorite passages is 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. “ Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. Give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for those who belong to Jesus Christ.” Life has taught me to know a lot but I am not a know it all. Realizing there is always more to learn and experience I continue my spiritual journey. I hope that Lingering In The Oasis will help make your day better, as you continue to travel your journey as well.
