STEADY… Lead Me On

“You must keep your faith steady and firm. You must not move away from the hope the good news holds out to you.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭1:23‬

A God story…my story continued one day as I was reading Jon Gordon’s “7 Step Positive You Plan” (Jon is a Christian-based / mainstream / motivational author and speaker). Step 6 caught my attention. Jon talks about choosing one word that gives you meaning, mission, passion, and purpose.
Interestingly, I’d already been doing this in my life for a few years. Previous words have become a part of me and I’ve held on to them over the years, as they have created all that Jon is emphasizing.

One of the words that continues to make an impact in my life is STEADY. I’d like to share what took place one day when God resounded loudly the word STEADY into my spirit.

I look up the definition of words often in order to understand their full meaning, which was the case with this particular one. Here’s what I found:

STEADY: 1) Firmly fixed, supported, or balanced, not shaking or moving. 2) Regular, even, and continuous in development, frequency, or intensity.

As soon as I reviewed the meaning of the word, I saw a picture in my mind. It was a ship sailing through the water. It had a focal point. It was focused on reaching a particular destination. In order for the ship to reach that point at its maximum capability, the ship needed to stay balanced, not moving off course, regular, even, paced, and firmly fixed. Steady as she goes!

During this time, I happen to be reading a Christian fiction book written by author Charles Martin titled When Crickets Cry. The same day I saw the vision of the ship in my mind, I would later read a chapter where the main character was sculling with a friend early in the morning on a lake.
He gave a detailed explanation of what sculling is and how to do it correctly. Basically, two people are rowing a long skinny boat without facing where you are going (now that is faith, steady faith). The key to being successful is keeping your stroke regular, even, continuous, and firmly fixed…steady as she goes!

The key to being successful is keeping your stroke

regular, even, continuous, and firmly fixed…

I’m awestruck by the similarities of my vision and Charles Martin’s use of words that is describing my word STEADY. God finds a way to capture our attention. Surprisingly soon after, I started hearing this song in my head, which I had not heard in quite a while.

STEADY HEART : Steffany Gretzinger

[Verse 1]
I can’t see what’s in front of me
Still I will trust You, still I will trust You
And I can’t see what’s in front of me
Still I will trust You, still I will trust You

[Chorus]
Steady heart that keeps on going
Steady love that keeps on hoping
Lead me on
Steady grace that keeps forgiving
Steady faith that keeps believing
Lead me on

[Verse 2]
Though the sky is dark
And the wind is wild
You’ll never leave me, You’ll never leave me

[Verse 3]
Though the night is long
There is a coming dawn
The light is breaking, the light is breaking

[Chorus]
Steady heart that keeps on going
Steady love that keeps on hoping
Lead me on
Steady grace that keeps forgiving
Steady faith that keeps believing
Lead me on
Steady heart that keeps on going
Steady love that keeps on hoping
Lead me on
Steady grace that keeps forgiving
Steady faith that keeps believing
Lead me on

[Interlude]

[Outro]
And as the dawn breaks
And the clouds clear
In an open space
Together we will run
